The Crew

Flossy

Where do I start… my name is Flossy, I am a 13 year old Parsons Jack Russell terrier and I am the star attraction here at Coastal Silver, I am head of beach combing and allow my humans to accompany me on a regular basis... Well someone’s got to carry the finds!

I like to get in front of the camera a lot, so you will see me on here, Facebook and Instagram regularly.

If you pop down to see us at Coastal Silver make sure you say hello to me and if you happen to bring a dogie treat, that would be so exciting.

A bit more about me, my hobby’s include beachcombing, swimming, eating and playing with my friends at the Arts & Craft centre, particularly Bobbin from the Sewing Hut who is a miniature Yorkshire terrier. I also like visits, sleeping, receiving dogie treats, and meeting and greeting the customers at Coastal Silver.

My humans are Andrea & John they don’t seem to like dogie treats, strange, but as long as they keep providing mine, all is good.

Andrea - Mum to the Coastal Family

Hi and welcome to Coastal my name is Andrea and my passion is working with silver, its such a versatile material and can be shaped and forged in to so many forms the possibilities are endless. I love to create new and unusual pieces, I also get great pleasure working on a customer’s own design, it is so rewarding. I have all the fun, and they get an item they want and love.

After many years as a foster carer, with metalwork and other crafts as hobby’s, silversmithing came out as my favourite craft. I have sold my work at craft fairs and events for many years, but after moving to Cleethorpes and seeing a craft shop available to rent, I thought it was time to have a permanent shop and workshop. The location for Coastal Silver is perfect, such a friendly atmosphere plus deckchairs in the sun for regular breaks.

I particularly love working with local sea glass, we beach comb regularly and take our finds back to the workshop, where I enjoy designing a piece that makes the most of the different glass colours, shapes and textures we find, some of the glass is over 100years old.

I have always had a coastal theme to my work, I love the sea and have always loved Cleethorpes and its beautiful beaches,

Coastal opened Easter 2016 and from the beginning the reception we have received has been lovely, our customer base has grown, and we have so many new friends.

Valuing our customers and doing all we can to meet their needs, is a big part of the ethos at Coastal.

John aka J.W.

Write about myself the wife said - well here goes.
I always loved art and have a woodworking / arty way about me, having brought up my three girls while working as a handyman, I found little time to play artist.

Having met and married my wife, Andrea, I began to train alongside her as an apprentice silversmith. Now fully fledged and using art to influence my silver work, I love nothing more than creating jewellery that stands out from the crowd. I love working with silver, inlaying sea glass and stones and also creating unique statement pieces of jewellery.

Over the past five years I have taught myself the old ways to carve and shape Jet, and we now spend our time collecting our own Jet on the Yorkshire and Lincolnshire coastline. I then morph it into stunning pieces of jewellery.

I love our working environment at Coastal Silver, we have an open plan workshop so that customers can both see us at work and interact with what’s going on. I look forward to sharing what we are up to at Coastal Silver on a daily basis via Facebook.

I also have a passion for wood, in particular driftwood, and I create individual pieces. These include boats, whales, fish and much more many of which are available for sale in the shop.

I pride myself on making my pieces the best they can be, whilst also ensuring that they are very affordable.

Hope to see you at Coastal soon!

Jack - Silversmith & Workshops Tutor

I have always enjoyed watching my mum, Andrea working with silver and copper and it just naturally became something I was able to do, Self-taught or apprentice to Mum, either way I am now able to say silver work is what I do and I love it.

Having recently moved to Cleethorpes, I have joined the family business at Coastal Silver. My main task is teaching the Coastal Workshops, and demand for these have grown. Due to this growth, we have now incorporated evening workshops, and these are proving very popular.

I also like to specialise in making intricate pieces that take time and patience, I like John love working with silver, and I am constantly discovering news ways to use it as I develop my own style.

Our workshops are delivered in a safe but fun way as we want to leave our customers with an experience they will enjoy and remember and everybody gets to by take home their own unique silver creation.

Emily - Youngest Daughter and Website Manager

Ok so I am the youngest member of the Coastal Family and social media and the website seemed my natural place to be in the team.
I am also a silversmith and step in when needed , this is less often as the website has become so busy it takes up most of my time and i love it.
I also run the social media side of things so if you drop us a message then its me you will be chatting to :)
I love the interaction with our lovely customers and the fact that here at Coastal no two days are the same , with lots of requests for bespoke pieces and booking in the workshops my mum keeps me busy.
